Choosing the right creative location for your photo shoot.

Are you a production company, agency, photographer or brand? If you’re capturing a magic moment, you’ll know just how important the location and setting is in helping you get it just right.

Sideline photo shoot at The Grain Store

The Grain Store Lewes is an eco-conversion and sustainable business with a heritage, design and philosophy rooted in simplicity, functionality and beauty. We offer our space as a luxury holiday home, unique meeting space and a creative shoot location. We just so happen to be one of the most incredible photoshoot locations in the UK,  situated in the heart of the South Downs National Park, a hop skip from London, Brighton and Lewes. But enough about us..

Location, location, location

The location is important to a photographer because it can help to tell a story, create a mood, or simply make a photo more visually appealing.

For example, a photographer might choose to do a family photo shoot in a beautiful home that has cosy spaces and fantastic lighting. Or, they might choose portrait photos out in nature with spectacular views.

The location can also be used to create a sense of place, for both film and photography.  One might shoot a cityscape to capture the hustle and bustle of urban life, or might shoot a landscape to capture the beauty of nature. As photographer and author Stephen Shore so eloquently puts it "The context in which a photograph is seen affects the meaning the viewer draws from it."

Ultimately, the location is a powerful tool that can be used to enhance the impact of a photograph. By carefully choosing the right location, photographers and filmmakers can create images that are both visually stunning and emotionally resonant.

The Grain Store, Lewes

Here are some of the reasons why location is important to a photographer:

  • It helps to set the scene and tell a story. For example, a photograph of a family taken inside a home can tell the story of their connection with each other.

  • It sets the tone by creating a mood or atmosphere. For example, a photograph of a couple taken in a romantic setting fuels a feeling of love and intimacy.

  • It can make the backdrop more visually appealing by providing beautiful scenery. For example, a photograph of a product taken in a natural setting can make it look more appealing and inviting, like the product shots from our Lewes-based friends at Wild Nutrition supplements or Old Tree Brewery Kombucha.

Our  space

As the name implies, The Grain Store is a former grain storage house which has been converted to the highest standard. Elegant finishing touches and sleek design proudly accentuate the original architectural features, including The Grain Store’s high ceiling.

The location includes a variety of spaces to inspire the imagination, including a cosy mezzanine area, a large open-plan living space and modern kitchen, three sizeable bedrooms, three beautifully presented bathrooms and a terrace balcony. Adjoined to the main house there is a studio space which has a mezzanine king bedroom, a luxurious bathroom, a well-equipped kitchenette, and a cosy living room with a private garden. Each room has been consciously designed and furnished with products from our local partners.
