Indoor Activities for Rainy Days in East Sussex

Sometimes it’s good to do nothing

The Grain Store is a rural, tranquil space that’s wonderfully conducive to finding your ‘off’ switch.

We think that’s what holidays are all about (when you’re not busy exploring the many delights of East Sussex, of course). In fact, you may find that rising from the super comfortable beds at The Grain Store is not something you ever want to rush, particularly if the weather outside isn’t looking so good.

So that you can lose yourself in a good book, we’ve provided a small selection of reading material at The Grain Store. Take it easy, curl up in a cosy corner with a delicious cup of locally roasted Backyard coffee, and let your imagination take over…

“Days I enjoy are days when nothing happens, when I have no engagements written on my block, when no one comes to disturb my inward peace.”

— Vita Sackville-West

Wet weather need not stop play

  • Modern building with glass walls and outdoor seating area at dusk

    The Depot

For the ultimate rainy day escape, why not visit Lewes’s state-of-the-art independent cinema and café-restaurant The Depot. Opened in 2017 to widespread acclaim, and showing recent releases and arthouse films, this is a wonderful, modern space in which to chill and watch the world go by over a coffee or glass of wine. There are even back row love-seats for the romantics.

  • Child playing in a ball pit filled with colorful plastic balls.

    Monkey Bizness

If you’re holidaying with children, you’ll need a few rainy-day activities up your sleeve just in case. Head for Monkey Bizness Indoor Play Centre on the outskirts of Lewes for giant climbing frames, slides, ball pits and a café.

  • Indoor water park with blue water slides and pool.

    Leisure Centres

Have a splash-about at The Triangle Leisure Centre in Burgess Hill with inflatables and a wave machine or visit Wave Leisure Centre in Lewes which has a large pool, inflatable sessions and a flume.

  • People playing laser tag in a dimly lit arena with neon lights.

    LazerZone

Older children will love LazerZone in Brighton, 2 minutes from the seafront. Have a good run around in the multi-level arena, equipped with state-of-the art laser packs and score points by zapping your opponents and blasting their bases.
