Four Years of The Grain Store
We are celebrating four years since we opened our doors and we have found ourselves fondly reflecting on the incredible journey - from an idle farm building, to the simple, beautiful and functional accommodation and meeting space our guests enjoy today.
Curator and creator Anni Townend had a vision for the disused grain storage barn, sketched on the back of a brown envelope. What she has created is a beautifully designed conversion, wrapped in cedar; a rural idyll and place to retreat.
Join us looking back over our journey, highlighting some of our proudest moments and wonderful additions. The team at The Grain Store’s aim is to delight guests and to offer a setting for those special memorable times together.

We have been named as one of the UK’s 50 Great Hideaways by The Times Newspaper.
We were also listed in the Best UK Staycations For 2024 by Elle Magazine - The Grain Store “provides the ultimate break if you're on the search for privacy, tranquility, and, most of all, space.“
Last year we achieved a Bronze Award from Green South Downs recognising our commitment to sustainability.
We have not come on our journey alone - we are happy to say. Collaborations are at our core with local shops and independent businesses who help supply The Grain Store with all we need to make our guests stay extra special. The below are just a select few examples of The Grain Store friends.
As our gardens start to pop with colour this Spring and it reminds us of how hard Sam and his team at Porter Hardy Garden Design have worked in creating such beautiful surroundings, using drought tolerant native plants that encourage and support wildlife, always thinking sustainably.
Our new wildflower garden is beginning to buzz with the resident bees and butterflies fluttering, its a real haven for nature. Honey from our bees from the hives that sit tucked away at The Grain Store has produced enough honey for it to be put into jars sold locally in Lewes.
Our beautiful wooden hot tub was the perfect addition to the garden just two years ago. This extra luxury allows guests to unwind and take in everything the rolling hills has to offer, or can be used to experience evening magic unwinding with a stargazing soak.
The newest addition to The Grain Store is our custom built brick BBQ (so new we don’t have any pictures yet!). The warmer spring days are on their way - and we cant wait for the alfresco dining to commence.
In a few words, The Grain Store for us is so special as it encompasses everything from special occasions, celebrations, family gatherings, and friend reunions - filled with love, joy, and memories a plenty.
So what is next?
Our vision is simple, to continue to delight our guests, giving YOU the best possible experience when staying with us. Whether it be making special memories, spending time with friends and family or visiting to appreciate the architecture. We look forward to greeting new friends and welcoming back return guests.
